British squash has taken a significant structural step towards its Olympic debut after the formal announcement of GB SQUASH, a new organisation created to oversee Great Britain’s preparation for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

Formed through a partnership between Scottish Squash, England Squash and Squash Wales, GB Squash will be solely responsible for the selection, preparation and support of British squash players competing at LA28.

The organisation has been established specifically for Olympic competition and will operate independently of the Home Nations’ existing domestic and international programmes, which will remain unchanged.

According to the three governing bodies, the creation of GB Squash is intended to provide a clear and unified structure for Olympic preparation, while preserving the autonomy of each Home Nation within the wider squash landscape.

In the coming weeks, GB Squash will begin recruitment for its Chair and three independent Committee Members. These appointments will play a central role in establishing governance, strategic oversight and decision-making around athlete preparation and Olympic selection.

The announcement comes at a pivotal moment for the sport, following confirmation of the Olympic Qualification System for LA28. Squash will make its Olympic debut with 16-player men’s and women’s singles draws, with five potential qualification routes available to athletes.

The Olympic competition will be staged at Universal City Zone on the Universal Studios Lot in Los Angeles, marking a high-profile introduction for squash on the world’s biggest sporting stage.

Speaking on behalf of England Squash, Mark Williams, the England Squash CEO said “The formation of GB Squash is an important step in our preparations for squash’s first Olympic Games. The next few years will be an incredibly exciting time for our sport and we should all look forward to LA28 with great anticipation, not least because we know our athletes will be aiming to contribute medals to the overall success of Team GB.”

Speaking on behalf of Scottish Squash, SSL President Hakim Din described the formation of GB Squash as a major milestone.

“This is a very exciting time for our sport and I am delighted that alongside England Squash and Squash Wales we have been able to announce the formation of GB Squash for the upcoming LA28 Olympic Games,” Din said.

“GB Squash are genuine medal contenders and I look forward to watching our Scottish athletes competing to earn a place in the GB team.”

The formation of GB Squash provides long-awaited clarity around British Olympic representation and formally begins the coordinated preparation phase for LA28. Further details on governance appointments, athlete support structures and selection frameworks are expected to be announced in the coming months.
